Q: What can we do when the shift work gets to be a strain on the relationship?

A: I wish there were an easy answer to this one. I've known couples who saw each other for a few hours once every week or two because of their screwed-up shifts (usually cops and nurses). The only practical solution is to make the most of your time together. Resist the tendency to make up for lost time by spending all your together breaks doing chores, paying bills, etc. Leave some time for fun and dates. And take advantage of vacations.
