Nonprofit
Group
Description: A Nonprofit Group is registered as an official
501 (3) (c) organization. This type of group is eligible for certain
tax exemptions - most notably income tax - and can obtain small
and large business funding as well as grants to support programs
and projects. Read more about Nonprofit Groups here.
How
are Nonprofit Groups organized? Typically, nonprofit organizations
are corporations. Assuming your new organization will be a corporation,
you should check the laws
of your state covering nonprofit incorporation. You will need
to draft the articles of incorporation and organizational bylaws
as a first step in the incorporation process.
Nonprofits
are governed by a board of directors. One of the things you should
do when starting a nonprofit is to consider who will serve on
your board. Check out some of the links to the left to help you
out.
How
do I start a Nonprofit Group? Check
the Directory
of Resources by State to find a state-specific Nonprofit Association.
Most have samples of forms, articles of incorporation, and bylaws.
If one is not listed, contact your state's Secretary
of State.
